Are You On a Mission?

About 25 years ago Dad came up with a Mission Statement for himself and his company:

“To be the Difference Maker in the personal, family, and business lives of enough people to make a positive difference in America.”

Since that time he has lived every day of his life to fulfill his mission.

Along the way he slightly changed the mission statement.  About 17 years ago the word spiritual was added.

“To be the Difference Maker in the personal, family, business, and spiritual lives of enough people to make a positive difference in America.”

Soon after that “and the world” was added.

“To be the Difference Maker in the personal, family, business, and spiritual lives of enough people to make a positive difference in America and the world.

About ten years ago we changed the word business to professional.
“To be the Difference Maker in the personal, family, professional, and spiritual lives of enough people to make a positive difference in America and the world.”

Two things you can learn from this:

Dad’s achievements and legacy didn’t just happen.  He is on a Mission.
There is no downside to having a Mission Statement because you can change it for the better anytime you want.

Are You On A Mission?  What are you waiting for?  Write your Mission Statement today and get started!  Don’t worry, if it’s not perfect, you can change it anytime you want!

I never have thought of any mission statement for myself. However, if I can make one it would go like this: To be my best in everything I do and discover my inner purpose. :-)

  5. Hi Tom.

I have an enormous respect for Mr. Zig Ziglar. I’ve learned a lot and get a lot in my life because of him.
He is one of my life, family and business mentors, next to the other two mentors of mine, the great Jim Rohn and the phenomenal Bob Proctor.
I hadn’t yet the opportunity to meet him personally – but for sure I will.
Your father impacted my life so much that I chose to setup my “opportunity clock” to wakes me up, every morning with Mr. Zig’s voice, saying: “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” :)
I chose to adopt/borrow this statement and apply it, because long time ago, before hearing about your father and before reading any of his works, my own statement sounds more or less like following:
“You can have success in your life, only if you help many other people to have success in their lives.”
So, he expressed it better than I did…

Regarding my own mission in life, here it is:
“To be the Difference Maker in the personal, family, financial, professional, and spiritual lives of enough other people and to make a positive difference in ROMANIA and in the world.” (The first impact in Romania I will made around Xmas 2010 when my first book will published and distributed in 25.000 pcs…)
Here, I combine Mr. Zig’s mission statement with my own one, because again, he expresses it in a better way, than I did.
If you find the time to reply to me I’ll be more then grateful.
    Make the difference,
