PURE AND POWERFUL

I thought I would share with you a devotional I did today (January 19) from The One Year Daily Insights with Zig Ziglar (my Dad!) and Dr. Ike Reighard.  I love Psalm 12:6.  Enjoy!

PURE AND POWERFUL

The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Psalm 12:6

With all the technology surrounding us, we hear thousands of messages every day.  Linda Stone, formerly of Apple and Microsoft, coined the term continuous partial attention to describe the constant distractions of e-mail, instant messaging, cell phones, and other devices.  She observes, “To pay continuous partial attention is to pay partial attention—continuously…  We want to connect and be connected.  We want to effectively scan for opportunity and optimize for the best opportunities, activities, and contacts, in any given moment.”

Too often, we value all received messages equally.  God’s Word, though, is more precious and valuable than any other message sent to us.  The psalmist describes God’s message as “pure words” that are like silver processed “seven times” in the furnace.  The number seven signifies completion and perfection throughout the Scriptures.  God’s Word is absolutely perfect and in alignment with the character of God.  It is the supreme measure of truth, and it imparts light and life to those who treasure it.

When we read and hear God’s Word, we need to sit up and take notice.  If we don’t’ understand it, we need to dig deeper until we find out what it means.  And when God uses His Word to redirect our steps, we are wise to say, “Yes, Lord.  I’m listening.”  God’s Word directs us along God’s path, and that way is perfect for us each day.

How do you treat letters or e-mails that are especially meaningful to you?

What would it mean for you to truly treasure God’s Word?

“To know the will of God is the greatest knowledge!  To do the will of God is the greatest achievement.”  George W. Truett

  1. Wonderful post Tom, “When we read and hear God’s Word, we need to sit up and take notice.” You make a great point here, the sacredness and holiness of God’s words truly do stand out over all the other words being passed around the universe. Also, when we are listening to God, our lives are normally working better than when we aren’t.
    We like that don’t we?

“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty” Approaching is throne quivering with awe, Isaiah saw the glory of God and he cried “woe is me” for he confessed that his lips were unclean as he stood in the presence of a PURE and HOLY GOD. Adonai, Elohim, Jesus Christ, Jehovah God has reconciled us and He has given us all we need in His word. AMEN, yet many bibles get dusty while the Owner’s manual for God’s beloved is untouched — the living, breathing word of God is the truth, it is our bread, it sustains us, it gives us direction, it is clear and full of rich insights! AMEN
    YES Tom, great awesome post!

    ANSWERING THE QUESTION:
I value precious emails from those who encourage me, inspire me and I post them as comments in my blog, that I may return to them to be encouraged as needed. I also save them in an expanding folder online entitled: encouragements.

  5. Barbara says:

    TREASURE GOD’S WORD:
Store it in your mind, in your heart as the most valuable assest, your personal gift from the King of Kings. When treasures are placed in your heart, one might lose a job, a home, a mate, their health, their looks — but what is stored as treasure in your soul cannot rust, be stolen, or ruined by fire, floods or famine!
